When you get home, try to rest comfortably and allow yourself to be waited on – doctor’s orders!
The local anaesthetic wears off after a couple of hours; you may then start to experience discomfort.
Take simple painkillers – whatever you would normally take for a headache, e.g. paracetamol or ibuprofen. Don’t be afraid of taking them regularly over the first few days but don’t exceed the recommended dose.
Ice packs (wrapped in a clean tea towel or pillowcase) can be applied up to 5 times daily for as long as you find them helpful – a bag of frozen peas work especially well.
Sleep propped up with extra pillows and cover your pillow with an old towel or pillowcase in case your dressing should loosen during the night.
Remove any dressing on the morning after your procedure. Don’t be alarmed if there is blood on it.
Expect some bruising and swelling; your eyelids may feel stiff and may not move as much as normal.
If you have been given Calecim serum to use, apply a few drops 3 times daily to the operated area until it runs out.
Your eye may be very watery and sticky; this is part of the eye’s natural defence system and does not mean you have an infection. The tears and sticky discharge lubricate and behave like a bandage; they also contain antibacterial agents, so you don’t need to clean it away, except to allow your eyelids to open (especially first thing in the morning).
Skin stitches usually dissolve within a fortnight. If deeper stitches are used, they take longer as they and sometimes fragments can appear through the skin as your body tries to get rid of them. This is nothing to worry about; you can remove these with eyebrow tweezers if you wish.

If there is any way we could improve our service, we would really appreciate your suggestions (unfortunately, we’re not allowed to serve alcohol!)
We would also love you to post a Google Review (Dr Julia Sen) to let others know about your experience.
