Mohs Surgery & Reconstruction In Worcestershire
Skin cancers on the face require a highly precise approach. The challenge is to remove every trace of cancer while preserving as much healthy skin and function as possible.
With Mohs, the cancer is removed in very thin layers. Each layer is examined under a microscope immediately, and if any cancer cells remain, another layer is taken. This process continues until the margins are clear. The result is cancer removal with the smallest possible loss of healthy tissue - an advantage that’s critical in delicate, visible areas such as the eyelids and the peri-ocular region.
In many hospitals, the Mohs procedure and the reconstructive surgery are carried out by two different specialists, often on different days.
As a consultant oculoplastic surgeon, Dr Sen is uniquely placed to combine the precision of cancer removal with her specialised reconstruction skills, so the area can, in most cases, be repaired straight away.
At your consultation, Dr Sen will discuss both Mohs surgery and conventional excision, explaining the benefits and limitations of each. Her aim is to recommend the approach that achieves complete cancer removal while giving the best chance of an excellent functional and cosmetic outcome.
